Richard Barker

Richard is a partner at Counteract, a specialist VC focused on early stage investment into companies developing solutions to carbon removals. He joined the Adaptavate Board as investor director following Counteract's initial investment in 2022.

Richard brings over 30 years international experience in sustainable businesses, investment banking and strategic consulting. Previous roles include: CEO of Biogen, the UK’s leading food waste AD builder and operator, CEO of RecovCo, a specialist aluminium recycler that acquired and operated Alcan’s French aluminium recycling business and Head of Strategy for ANZ Investment Bank in Australia.

He has held a number of non-executive and advisory roles for both private equity backed businesses and also for investment funds.

Richard has an MEng in Engineering Economics and Management from Oxford University and was a lecturer in Economics at University College Cork in Ireland.

Richard is passionate about the climate and the environment, and, when not boring his four children about recycling and energy efficiency, he can be found in the great outdoors either off or on his bike.
