To succeed in our mission, we are looking for a Head of Engineering who will design a world-first industrial scale demonstration of our technology.

Your role

We are recruiting an experienced Engineer, to lead alongside our executive team to ensure the business strategy is underpinned with the appropriate engineering approach. Using a blend of leadership, technical expertise and innovation, this role will be responsible for developing and scaling the company’s engineering function. Our team requires a dynamic leader who can blend technical expertise with strategic decision-making and will be responsible for growing and managing a high-performing team of engineers, collaborating across departments, whilst owning the design and delivery of cutting-edge production assets.  

Having commissioned our pilot production line, in a demonstrative, continuous process, we are at a pivotal time in our growth as we look to establish our first commercial scale production centres across Europe. Working closely with the CTO and the existing Engineering function your focus will be to take the learnings from our pilot facility and scale them by undertaking the following; 

  • Cost, design and plan our next scale of industrial facility, delivered within the next 1-2 years.   

  • Flexibly thinking, dynamically assessing and solving problems for engineering scale up, working with our team to derisk engineering elements at small scale and allowing our innovations to successfully scale.  

  • Working alongside our licensees helping them to develop the business case for establishing their manufacturing centres on a global scale.   

Your Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy: 

  • Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team, fostering a collaborative and innovative, culture. 

  • Define and execute the engineering strategy in alignment with company growth objectives  

  • Support the executive function of the business to deliver the funding for scale up by bringing together the appropriate level of cost certainty and risk management to deliver the next industrial scale of Adaptavate facility. 

  • Experience of engineering scale up of novel processes, FEED studies, through to detailed design and project delivery would be highly advantageous. 

  • Work with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to define and prioritise engineering goals. 

  • Communicating timelines and budgets, ensuring excellent project delivery. 

Process Development and Delivery: 

  • Oversee the design, development and de-risking of new production assets, both for Adaptavate and global licensees, ensuring they meet quality, sustainability, and safety standards. 

  • Manage the scale up of the engineering solutions, in a dynamic environment, identifying, prioritising, communicating and subsequently eliminating scale up risks 

Technical Management:

  • A track record of hands-on scaling innovation, and a proven ability to critically evaluate and solve problems, bringing fresh thinking. 

  • Large (£10m+) capital expenditure project design and delivery experience. 

  • Technical experience of working with large-scale continuous, integrated, or hybrid process 

  • Experience of construction and composite materials processes is desired  

  • Great people skills, working with our team to understand the process from the ground up with the ability to escalate and communicate to senior management level on progress and key metrics.  

You have:

  • A track record of hands-on scaling innovation, and a proven ability to critically evaluate and solve problems, bringing fresh thinking.
