Important notes for use on masonry
Plan junctions between different material types to help minimise thermal bridging.
Ensure the masonry is consolidated. Remove any loose or crumbly material, particularly cementitious or gypsum-based materials. Dub out the masonry if needed - fill holes and level off.
Mist the surface of the masonry 10-15 mins prior to applying the levelling coat to control suction.
Apply levelling coat/s of Thermal in even 10-25mm coats. Allow a setting time of at least 2 hours per coat. Apply final levelling coat as a combed coat using a 10mm u-notch trowel (half-round notched trowel).
Important notes for Wood fibre boards
Push boards into the Thermal levelling coat before it sets.
Boards must be mechanically fixed through the levelling coat and secured into the masonry structure behind. Fit first board at base of wall – fasten in the centre with one fixing. Fit additional boards ensuring vertical joins are staggered.
Use 5 fixings per board on masonry. Allow a drying time of 24 hours before fitting the remaining 4 fixings per board.
Recommended plaster application
Use Thermal to dub out any large holes and to level wall prior to main plastering.
Apply levelling coat(s) of Thermal in even 10-25mm coats and leave each coat to set for at least 2 hours.
Apply final levelling coat as a combed coat using a 10mm u-notch trowel.
Push boards into the Thermal levelling coat before it sets and fasten in the centre with one fixing.
See Installation Guide for Wood Fibre Boards for how to apply a plaster finish to the boards.
